RLE toric monofocal lenses - Monofocal toric lens implants in Prague

RLE or Refractive Lens Exchange, also called CLE or Clear Lens Extraction is a painless 10 minutes long intraocular eye surgery during which an optical element (intraocular toric lens) is permanently implanted in the eye. Refractive lens exchange is suitable for patients over 40 years of age with disorders beyond the scope of laser eye surgery. The main advantage of RLE is to remove any number of diopters. It is also a preventive treatment - patients after refractive lens exchange is no more at risk of cataract and the risk of paroxysmal glaucoma is substantially reduced. Toric lenses Monofocal AcrySof IQ Toric IOL for patients with stronger astigmatism are implanted during the surgery. Toric lenses are custom-made IOL lenses. No waiting list, simple booking steps and available surgery date from two weeks onwards.

What are toric lenses?

A toric lens is an intraocular lens that is shaped in a particular way in order to correct astigmatism. Standard IOL lenses have a spherical surface. A toric IOL lens, in contrast, is a geometric shape that looks like a doughnut. The shape of toric contact lenses creates different refractive or focusing, powers on the vertical and horizontal orientations. The toric lens is custom-made.

What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism is a refractive error and causes vision to be blurred. Astigmatism is usually caused by an irregularly shaped cornea, more like a football or the back of a spoon.

Are you a suitable candidate?

Refractive lens exchange with toric lenses is suitable for patients with higher astigmatism over 40 years of age with disorders beyond the scope of laser eye surgery. A free evaluation by our eye surgeons is available for you in order to assess your suitability for the eye surgery and type of lens implants.

What are the benefits of refractive lens replacement?

The main advantage of is to remove any number of diopters and restore vision thanks to a custom-made toric monofocal lens. It is also a preventive treatment - patients after refractive lens exchange is no more at risk of cataract and the risk of paroxysmal glaucoma is substantially reduced.

How long does the surgery take?

Quite painlessly, monofocal toric lens replacement surgery is performed in an ambulatory setting during which an optical element (intraocular lens) is permanently implanted in the eye. It takes about 10 minutes. The patient can leave the clinic immediately after eye surgery. Next day is a post-operative check-up. It can only take 5 days to have both eyes operated, planned in 2 visits. The toric lenses are custom-made lenses and it takes approx. 3 weeks to have them ready after the initial preoperative examination.

How is the monofocal toric lens replacement performed?

The surgery is performed in local anaesthesia. The natural lens is painlessly crushed with ultrasound and removed through a microincision. Our experienced eye surgeon implants a new high-quality Acrysof IOL toric lens.

What methods do you offer?

The price quoted is for a standard method where a small incision is made by our experienced eye surgeon. We also offer a so-called femtosecond laser-assisted surgery where the incision is performed by a femtosecond laser LenSx hence achieving even greater precision and faster recovery times.

What IOL lenses are available?

We stock many types of lenses and lens implants. Most popular are Alcon Acrysof lenses and Zeiss lenses. The standard monofocal toric lens replacement surgery is performed with Alcon Acrysof toric lenses. Intraocular lenses AcrySof are produced by Alcon, an American company, and have been approved for use by the European Union and the USFDA.

Multifocal toric lens exchange (IOL)

To patients who would also like to get rid of reading glasses, we recommend the Intraocular Multifocal Toric Lens Exchange method, which is refractive lens exchange completed with so-called multifocal intraocular toric lens implantation.

How long do I have to stay in the Czech Republic?

Laser eye surgery generally takes three days, while cataract surgery and lens replacement require a minimum of five days.

What if I will have issues with my eyes after I return home?

It is sporadic that you would see unplanned postoperative care once home. However, if you notice any vision changes, it is best to have your eyes checked soon by your ophthalmologist at home. It is also possible to schedule an appointment at our clinic.

When can I return to normal activities?

You may return to your everyday life two days after treatment with all eye surgeries. Lens replacement and cataract surgery require more care, however. You will use eye drops for 4 weeks after the surgery. You’ll need to be more cautious during this time. For example, no public pool, no heavy lifting, avoiding contact sports, or risk of injury to the eye.

Driving is usually possible from the 3rd to the 7th day after the surgery. However, because of the individual process of neuroadaptation, it may take longer for some clients to feel comfortable driving. You’ll need to visit your local designated transportation authority to remove “lenses required for driving.
