Are you a suitable candidate?
Refractive lens exchange is suitable for patients over 40 years of age with disorders beyond the scope of laser eye surgery who wish to see without glasses and contact lenses. A free evaluation by our eye surgeons is available for you in order to assess your suitability for the RLE surgery and type of lens implants.
What are the benefits of refractive lens replacement?
The main advantage of RLE is to remove any number of diopters. It is also a preventive treatment - patients, after refractive lens exchange, are no more at risk of cataract, and the risk of paroxysmal glaucoma is substantially reduced.
How is the laser-assisted refractive lens replacement performed?
Laser-assisted RLE with multifocal lenses is performed in local anaesthesia. The natural lens is crushed using a femtosecond laser instead of ultrasound. Less energy and less intrusion into the eye result in quicker recovery. The incision is made by the femtosecond laser hence increasing the precision of the cut. Our experienced eye surgeon implants a new high-quality Acrysof multifocal lens.
How long does the surgery take?
Quite painlessly, RLE is performed in an ambulatory setting during which an optical element (intraocular lens) is permanently implanted in the eye. It takes about 10 minutes. The patient can leave the clinic immediately after the surgery. The next day is post-operative check-up.
What methods do you offer?
The price quoted is for the femtosecond refractive lens replacement surgery using LenSx with multifocal lens implants. We also offer a standard method where a small incision is made by our experienced eye surgeon.
What IOL lenses are available?
We stock many types of lenses and lens implants. Most popular are Alcon Acrysof lenses and Zeiss lenses. The standard RLE is performed with Alcon Acrysof lenses. Intraocular lenses AcrySof Restor are produced by Alcon, an American company, and have been approved for use by the European Union and the USFDA.
