Upper Eyelids are very much exposed functionally, and that is why the first visible signs of aging appear in this area. Age causes the skin to lose elasticity and excessive skin deposits to form at the eyelids. These may also be influenced by other factors, such as inheritance, skin type, way of life, allergies, kidney diseases, etc.
The procedure is often combined with Lower eyelids surgery or Facelift.
Post-surgery Care after Upper Eyelids (Blepharoplasty)
After the surgery a thin patch is attached to the cuts and a sterile covering is applied, again attached to the skin by a patch. The eyes of the patient are not covered and his sight is not restricted. The patient can walk to the hotel immediately after the surgery. Driving a car, however, is forbidden.
Over the first 24 hours after the surgery the patient places cold applications on the covering (ice in a plastic bag, cooling gels) and remains at rest. We recommend sleeping in semi-sitting position, not lying down.
The day after the surgery the patient himself removes the covering applied on the cuts on the eyelids but leaves the patch attached to the skin. The latter is kept dry (without wetting) for a period of 7 days after the plastic surgery.
The stitches are removed on the 7th day after the cosmetic surgery and it may be done by the operating plastic surgeon, but it is also possible for the patient to do it himself/herself. The patch must be taken off the skin by a pair of tweezers and then the string on the outer side of the eyelid is pulled smoothly to remove the entire stitch. Afterwards it is possible to wash the eyelids in water and grease it with a grease-based cream.
Ten days after the Upper Eyelids is necessary to start with scar massages. We push the scar with the tip of a finger and we exert pressure for 30 seconds; then we move the finger onto another part of the scar. We massage the scar this way several times a day. We can use a grease cream while doing it. Definitely do not pull the scar, as that may open the cut.
After the Upper Eyelids surgery the scar should not be exposed to sunshine for two months, otherwise it could become dark. In the event of being exposed to sunrays earlier, we recommend covering the scar with a high-UV-filter cream. After the Upper Eyelids oedema and bruises appear on the skin of the eyelids and on the cheeks, persisting for a period of 2-3 weeks.
The scar after the Upper Eyelids (Blepharoplasty) cosmetic surgery is reddish at first but pales gradually so that it becomes nearly invisible in the natural crease where the skin folds upon opening.
The final results of your Upper Eyelids (Blepharoplasty) cosmetic surgery in Prague are evaluated after 4-8 weeks.
The patient can carry out office work as early as three days after the Blepharoplasty, but nevertheless, s/he must take into account the fact that the cuts will be bandaged up and the bruises and oedema will still be visible.
Sporting activities and physical strain are not recommended until two weeks after the actual cosmetic surgery of the eyelids.
