Frequently asked questions

Dental Implants

In case you are missing a tooth or your teeth need to be extracted, you will be offered dental implants. This procedure asks in general for 3 separate visits resulting in perfect teeth.

Are there any contraindications for implantation?

arrow-procedures

Implants are contraindicated in the following cases: Autoimmune diseases or patients whose immune system is weakened or suppressed, osteoporosis and other bone diseases, cancer not in remission, cardiovascular disease (e.g.: recent myocardial infarction, valvular disease, heart failure), etc.

Implants are not recommended in the following cases: Smoking, drug addiction, alcoholism, Illness requiring anticoagulants (blood thinners), uncontrolled diabetes, patients with a medical condition requiring organ transplant, etc.

The suitability for implantation is confirmed after the initial examination and 3D scan.

Can I have a Dental Implant after a tooth extraction?

arrow-procedures

If you have a tooth that needs to be extracted and you plan to replace the missing tooth with a Dental Implant, your tooth can usually be extracted and the Implant can be placed as part of the same procedure. There is not always a need to have the tooth extracted before you visit the clinic. Alternatively, if you have recently had your tooth extracted, you will need to wait 4-6 weeks before your Dental Implant is placed. Once your gum line is in a healing stage the healing process cannot be interrupted to place the Dental Implant but both the extraction and the Implant placement can usually be completed at the same time.

Do you provide any guarantee for the implants?

arrow-procedures

Our clinic provides a manufacturer's lifetime guarantee on the implants themselves. This guarantee is only valid if our dental clinic completes the work fully. This guarantee is validated by annual check-ups every 6-12 months at our clinic. Failure to attend the check-up may invalidate your guarantee. There is a 2 years guarantee applied to dental restoration under normal conditions of use. In this case, we will restore, repair or change any restorations free of charge. If the 2-year period has ended and a problem develops that results in the removal or loss of an implant, a surgical fee will be charged for a new implant to be placed, however, the implant itself will be free. The abutment and the crown will also need to be paid for as these cannot be used again with a new implant.

How long does a dental implant last?

arrow-procedures

With proper care and maintenance, a dental implant can last for more than 25 years. Dental implants are actually designed to be a permanent tooth replacement option. Unlike natural teeth, dental implants are not susceptible to dental disease such as decay; however, the health of the gums is vital to maintaining lasting implant success. Conscientious home care by the patient and regular professional cleanings and check-ups are essential elements for dental implant sustainability. Each patient is different, and success relies upon diagnosis and planning, medical history, and a variety of other factors.

Is it painful to insert a dental implant?

arrow-procedures

The intervention takes place after the pain has been eliminated by the local anesthetic. Immediately after the surgery and for a few days you will likely experience some discomfort. After all, this is a major dental procedure. However, any pain should be manageable.

What are Dental Implants?

arrow-procedures

A dental implant is a prosthesis used to replace missing teeth. It serves as an artificial root. Essentially, it is a small titanium post/fixture that is inserted into the jawbone, on top of which a single crown (cap), a fixed bridge, a partial denture, or a full denture can be attached. Once the implant integrates into your bone, a structure called an abutment is connected to the implant and then the artificial tooth(crown) is attached. Therefore, there are 3 parts to an “implant tooth”: the dental implant itself, the abutment, and the artificial tooth/crown. Before we place the abutment and the permanent crown we generally place a healing cylinder for the gums to adapt the gums to the presence of the crown.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

arrow-procedures

When a single permanent tooth or multiple teeth are lost due to dental decay or gum disease, dental implants can now replace them. Dental implants can last a lifetime and can improve your appearance, your confidence, and your ability to eat the foods you like, and participate in an active lifestyle, without worrying about your teeth. Dental implants are made of titanium and can never get dental decay!

What brand of implants do you use?

arrow-procedures

We use Biomet 3i and ICX implant systems. Dental implants are made of titanium alloy (similar to hip implants, shoulder implants, and knee implants), which is highly biocompatible, and an allergy to titanium is extremely rare! Currently, there are no proven alternatives to titanium dental implants.

What is a 3D or CAT Scan?

arrow-procedures

This type of dental X-ray allows the dentist to see your teeth or jaws as a 3D image. It enables us to see the exact width and height of the bone. It can be one of the most useful ways to allow a safe and predictable outcome for dental implants. It also enables us to plan the implantation treatments online.

What is computer guided implant surgery?

arrow-procedures

Computer-guided dental implant placement uses advanced technology to allow oral surgeons to precisely place the new teeth for patients. A computer program and cone-beam CT will be used for planning an accurate position of dental implants. The computer program will combine x-ray images, impressions, and cone-beam CT images and translate them into a 3D model of the jaw. The dentist will be able to visualize the placement of dental implants and determine their optimum position with a high degree of accuracy. This treatment enables us to maximize the accuracy of the implantation and minimize the pain and healing time needed.

What is the success rate of dental implants?

arrow-procedures

It varies from individual to individual and with health and habits. For a healthy individual with good oral hygiene and good health, dental implants are predictably successful with reported success rates above 90-95 percent.

Who is a good candidate for dental implants?

arrow-procedures

Almost anyone who is missing a single tooth, multiple teeth, or all teeth is a candidate for dental implants.
