Innovative X-Wave technology
Vivity is a first-of-its-kind, non-diffractive extended depth of focus IOL with Alcon´s proprietary non-diffractiove X-Wave technology, which stretches and shifts light without splitting it. The aim is to create a continuous, extended range of vision rather than separate focal points.
Will I get rid of glasses?
The Vivity lenses enable you to see well at distance and arm’s length, which significantly reduces the dependence on prescription glasses for intermediate and far. Vivity lens also offers functional vision up close, therefore reading glasses are not as much needed as in the case of monofocal lenses. This will allow you to use your phone or read a menu in good lighting without glasses. You might find that distinguishing details, for example in the case of small text, can be optimized with reading glasses. Comfortable reading on your phone or other devices can be also reached by adjusting font size.
According to results from a U.S. clinical trial, 94 % of participants described visual acuity with Vivity IOL at distances as good or very good. The intermediate distance was rated good or very good by 92 %. For up-close, 47 % of participants indicated they did not need glasses to read a book, compared with 16 % of participants in the next group that had received monofocal lenses. This lens has a monofocal-like visual disturbance profile, a low incidence of severe or very bothersome glare and halos, and provides a continuous extended range of vision that can meet the needs of many cataract patients.
No worries about halos
Halos are bright circles that surround a light source, which can be especially irritating for night drivers. Fortunately, with the Vivity lenses, you don’t have to worry about that. The minimal occurrence of visual phenomena (such as halos and glare) can be compared to the level of monofocal lenses.
Are the Vivity lenses suitable for me?
The EDOF lenses are suitable for patients who suffer from cataracts or presbyopia. It is also a perfect solution for people who are not for some reason suitable for trifocal lenses (for example retina issues). Toric version of EDOF lenses can also treat astigmatism. Vivity lenses have a UV filter as well as the blue light filter and were approved by the FDA in February 2020.
